Patient Guide

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before your visit.

How often should I see a gynecologist?
It is generally recommended to visit a gynecologist annually for a routine check-up. This allows for preventive screenings, such as Pap smears (usually every 3-5 years depending on age) and breast exams, as well as discussing any concerns about your reproductive health.
When should a girl have her first gynecologist visit?
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends the first visit between the ages of 13 and 15. This initial visit is often just a conversation to build trust and discuss cycle health, though a physical exam may be performed if there are specific medical concerns.
What should I prepare for my appointment?
  • A calendar of your menstrual cycle (dates of last period).
  • A list of any medications or supplements you are taking.
  • Any medical records or family history relevant to reproductive health.
  • A list of questions or symptoms you want to discuss.
Can I visit if I am on my period?
Yes, you can usually still attend your appointment. However, if you are scheduled for a Pap smear or other specific tests, it may be better to reschedule for a time when you are not menstruating for the most accurate results. Please call us to confirm if you are unsure.
